Biomechanical Analysis

A podiatrist is the clinician, that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of foot, foot related disorders and gait analysis.

The term biomechanics is used widely to describe the analysis of the foot from an orthopaedic perspective where movement and function of the foot are considered (of course, biomechanics relates to a whole area of human movement analysis and not just the foot)

However, podiatric biomechanics encompasses the disciplines of biomechanics and gait analysis with dynamic assessment of the foot and lower limb.

Movement analysis allows the Podiatrist to analyse the cause and effects of poor foot function and to integrate the lower limb as part of a holistic approach to the treatment of foot, ankle and leg disorders as well as back pain and injury. This might incorporate the prescription of orthotics and the type of trainers you wear.

Orthotic devices are specialist foot supports that may be used to improve or correct foot function problems as part of the integrated approach to pain and injury at PHIT (UK).
